Cranky Hanks Pizza Bank

If you like pizza, real home made style pizza, you need to stop at Cranky Hanks in Shellsburg, Iowa. I have a new pizza favorite the Kitchen Sink. The staff were great, friendly and attentive to our needs (small kids). You’re going to love the pizza, eat till stuffed, but save room for dessert. When they say cheese cake say yes, yes. Best cheese cake I had, home made and you will kick your self in the butt if you pass.

If you're anywhere near Cranky Hank’s Pizza Bank, do yourself a favor and stop in! We had an incredible meal—sausage pizza, spaghetti and meatballs, cheese curds, salad, and cheesecake—and everything was absolutely delicious. The quad city–style pizza was a standout, with a perfect crust and flavorful sausage. The spaghetti and meatballs were hearty and comforting, and the cheese curds were crispy and addictive. Even the salad was fresh and satisfying, and we finished things off with a rich, creamy slice of cheesecake that hit the spot. What really made the experience special was the atmosphere—fun, welcoming, and full of character. The owner even came by our table to chat about the history of the place and their unique pizza style. It’s clear that there’s a lot of pride and passion behind everything they serve. The service was great too—friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Cranky Hank’s is a true gem—great food, great people, and a great vibe. We’ll definitely be back!

Drove up from Iowa City because I heard about authentic QC-style pizza in the area and wanted to check it out. Was not disappointed! Went to St Ambrose and have missed authentic QC pizza. Much better than Harris is now. If you are a fan of QC style do yourself a favor. You will remember what it’s sposed to be.

Cranky Hanks Pizza – Always Outstanding! The service was outstanding as always! We ordered The Kitchen Sink and a half Canadian bacon & pineapple / half Canadian bacon & sauerkraut pizza—both were absolutely amazing. You can always count on Cranky Hanks for delicious pizzas. The owners and staff create such a fun and welcoming atmosphere, too. We didn’t even have room for cheesecake this time because we were so stuffed—but it’s always tempting! Looking forward to our next visit. It was an outstanding Mother’s Day meal for sure!!!

We’ve been going to Cranky Hanks since the first location and they are still our favorite. We love the Quade City style pizza and the Kitchen Sink is our favorite. The kids and I took my husband there for his bday and they came out signing with confetti and cheesecake. My teenagers laughed hysterically and had a great time, and the food and all of the beer choices on tap were perfect! It’s worth the drive!

Last Sunday ordered pizza over the phone for a first day employee to answer and take my order. I pick it up near close and the pizza was wrong. Called the next open business day to ask what can be done and the owner was nice and understanding and said we can get the right pizzas anytime. Ordering it again today with wings (so we could pay for something lol) to be greeted at the door by the owner to tell me my full order will be on them to say thanks for supporting their business and giving them another chance, I LOVE THIS! The food, the friendly staff and an owner that runs their business beautifully. I hardly ever do reviews but I had to give these guys 5/5! Best pizza in an hour radius of Cedar Rapids! Go to Cranky Hank’s, you will not regret it!

My wife & I had a phenomenal experience this past weekend. Outstanding pizza & the fried mushrooms were on point too. The Cheesecake was incredibly tasty as well. Keith even provided me with a sample of the Italian Beef, MELT IN YOUR MOUTH. Can’t wait to return to try it all.

Very cool converted turn of the century bank. The service was as great as you'll get in the Midwest. We had a nice visit with the friendly owner. Not cranky at all! The pizza is top notch QC style. All positive. You have to come see for yourself.
